EMU stands for Electric Multiple Unit that is self driven train and requires no locomotive to run. For being self propelled, these trains gets electricity from overhead electric wires like an electric locomotive and consist of one or many motor units those may be coupled as per the requirements. Indian Railways operates these trains usually between those stations which have specific height and standards of platforms only.
