WAG 5 locomotives were once most used AC electric locomotives of Indian Railways for hauling goods trains. In the beginning in 1988, the WAG 5 was actually a converted WAM 4 locomotive dedicated to goods trains but then it has been given many modification by CLW (Chittranjan Locomotive Works) and BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited) to upgrade it as per time to time requirements. The 4360HP WAG 5 mainline locomotive have a capability to haul heavy freight cars at maximum speed limit of 100kmph. They were built around 1200 numbers and are still in use.
