MEMU stands for Mainline Electric Multiple Unit that is a self driven train and requires no locomotive to run. The 1400 HP MEMU gets electricity from overhead electric wires like an electric locomotive to run and consist of one or many motor units those may be coupled as per the requirements with a speed limit of 120kmph. Indian Railways operates these trains on mainline routes where other long route and express trains runs.
