WAG 9 was actually developed in 1995 by ABB group for Indian Railways with a vision of Long and heavier freight trains hauling. The first 22 units were imported from ABB and were entered in Western Railways zone in Mumbai from where the success of WAG 9 locomotives were started and become the most successful freight hauling locomotive after its elder sibling WAG 7. The 6125 HP WAG 9 is capable of operating heavy freight trains at maximum speed limit of 105 kmph.
