The WDP 4B is an upgrade to its original sibling EMD GT46MAC and is a new generation passenger hauling diesel locomotive with electric transmission made by General Motors Electro-Motive Division and under license by DLW (Diesel Locomotive Works) Varanasi. The 4500HP WDP 4B is capable of hauling 24 passenger carriages with more torque than WDP 4 at a maximum speed limit of 160kmph. These locomotives are the replacement of ALCOs due to its more fuel efficiency, more power and less maintenance cost.
